Mika Häkkinen drives the McLaren Solus GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Published: 14th July 2024. Two-time McLaren Formula 1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen experienced the epic McLaren Solus GT at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Häkkinen, who won two World Drivers’ Championships with McLaren in 1998 and 1999 – and was part of the 1998 World Constructors’ Championship winning team - is an icon of Formula 1’s V10 era. The single-seater Solus GT, with its dramatic V10 engine and 10,000rpm redline, is evocative of this period in the sport’s history. And the Solus GT driven by Mika is especially mesmerising. One of 25 customer cars that will be built, it has been hand painted by McLaren Special Operations to match the livery of his 1998 championship winning McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 car, the colours expertly matched and applied.

The Seven is a familiar shape while several years on from its launch, the 3 Wheeler can still stop traffic with its looks. What we want to know, though, is how they perform on track. Which is quickest, and which is the biggest hoot?
